As the end of the year gets closer, please continue to read the Core Class Updates part of our newsletter, for project deadlines and assessment dates on our last units. We want the students to finish strong! |
Shoot/Serve-A-ThonDon't forget! Assist and/or encourage your child to reach out for sponsors! Our overall goal is to raise money for this class's 7th and 8th grade trips.
6th Grade: $75+ per student, class goal of $1,500
** Funds raised do stay with individual student’s trip cost. These funds cannot be used for other school expenses, only towards their 7th and 8th grade trips. If a student who fundraised leaves CCA, the funds stay with the class.
Seeing the students encourage each other in this event, contributing individually for the common class goal helps our students build their class unity.
Thursday, May 7th: Shoot/Serve-A-Thon will take place at CCA during the school day!
Sponsor letters should be returned to homeroom teachers by May 7th. Money must be turned in by May 15th. |
Here's The Happenings: |
Science: Upon return from Outdoor Ed, we reviewed Ecosystems and made some commitment posters. I hope the poster helped motivate them to finish the semester strong! Students will have a final ecosystem project due on Friday, May 15th. We will complete this project in class the week of May 12th. Next week, the student will review renewable and non-renewable resources and how they are connected to ecosystems.
Homework: None
Math: Chapter 7- Equations and Inequalities It was a slow transition back into math class, so I am hoping that this next week will be better. I am so glad that the students had such a great time at OE. We started discussing writing equations where there is an x and y variable and how they could relate it to their science fair projects they did this year. We will finish this up on Tuesday as well as start working on what inequalities are and how to write and graph them. Looking ahead, students will have a test on this Chapter on Wednesday, May 13th. We will finish out our year with discussions about ratios and rates. 😄
Homework: None :) All work will be due no later than May 15.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about industrialization of America. They will learn about labor unions and the urbanization of America. They will also find out about the growing pains that go along with development. |

English: 6th grade ELA will be continuing our reading of 90 Miles to Havana over the next two weeks. As we work to finish this engaging and meaningful novel, there may be a slight increase in reading homework at times. That said, my goal is to keep homework as manageable as possible while still allowing us to move through this very enjoyable book together.
Writing & Research: Writing and research classes will be finishing their morphology unit next week. Students will end the unit with a fun project that allows them to apply their knowledge by creating a comic book.
As a reminder, all students are completing weekly reading journal entries. Students should have a current book that they are reading regularly.
By May 8, students should have at least one book completed. Once a book is finished, they will choose and complete one project from the choice board that has been provided to them. Please help remind your student to continue reading consistently at home. Thank you for your support! Please note that the due date for the 8th grade project will be Tuesday, May 12th. |
