8th Grade News- 3/22
Congrats to all of our CCA middle school students and their extra curricular activities this past quarter! We are honored to see our students participate and excel in athletics, the arts, and academics.
We are proud of all of you! |
Here's The Happenings: |
Science: The students took their test on genetics and will be starting a new unit next week, on Weather and Climate! We will tie this unit into our trip location, as well as our local home of Colorado. Lastly, we dissected sharks and sting rays with 6th graders on Friday. This is typically a 6th grade dissection; however, two years ago the sharks were not available to be purchased, so I included both grade levels this time. We even found one baby shark!
Homework Due 3/25: Weather & Climate in Colorado Assignment (google classroom- will post Monday morning)
Math: Chapter 5- Solving Systems of Linear Equations When grading assignments, it was apparent that a SLOW down was needed. This last week was spent on student questions on assignments from 5.2-5.4. Many students did not show any work for multiple problems, but just copied answers from the back of the book. We discussed WHY there are answers there, and HOW we should use them. For this reason, we will test next week over the 5.1-5.4 lessons and then continue with our learning on this chapter after break. The test will start on Thursday, March 26th to allow for time to finish Friday if needed.
Homework: Make sure work shown on all problems on 5.4 Practice, due Tuesday
Social Studies: Students will be learning about the Vietnam War. We will learn about American POW’s and about the Hanoi Hilton (North Vietnam’s torture chambers). We will also learn about the protests going on during the war. |

English: Our 8th graders are continuing their unit on A More Perfect Union. This week, they dug deeper into different primary sources from that pivotal point in American history.
Writing & Research: Our Writing and Research classes have begun a new poetry unit! Students have started exploring different types of poems and discussing how poets use language creatively. |
