Highlights from last week-
|
Here's The Happenings: |
Science: We have begun our next unit! The week before spring break we began learning about Earth’s layers and plate tectonic boundaries. Their learning target for this unit will be making a children’s book. We will work on these next week!
We also did an escape room called, “A Check Activity.” Students had to make tentative predictions on the story of a family based on the checks they had written over the course of 25 years. Observing their discussions and debates was fun to see, as they continued to revise their predictions based on the evidence in front of them.
Homework: Missing Assignments
Math: Chapter 7- Equations and Inequalities We started our newest chapter this week- equations and inequalities. Please ask your student what the difference is between an expression and an equation. The students also played battleship while practicing how to add and subtract integers. Next week students will be solving equations using addition or subtraction. Homework: 6.1 Extra Practice Worksheet,- front side annotated and completed Tuesday (will do the back side in class Tuesday)
Social Studies: Students will begin our next unit on industrialization. They will learn about Vanderbilt and Rockefeller, and their contributions to American Industrialism. They will also dig deeper into the importance of railroads and natural resources in America. |

English: Last week, I introduced 6th grade to the book 90 Miles to Havana. In this story, students will see how the Cuban Revolution impacted a family trying to protect their children. This week, students will take a deeper look at what the Cuban Revolution was and then begin reading the novel. Last week, to give all students a much‑needed brain break, all core classes planned escape rooms for the afternoon. Each grade level had the opportunity to experience every escape room. In ELA, students participated in a fun, interactive escape room that featured a review of parts of speech and general grammar skills. Writing & Research: Writing and Research has begun a unit exploring Latin and Greek roots, prefixes, and suffixes. This will help students break down words and better understand unfamiliar words they encounter in their reading. |
