Here's The Happenings: |
Science: We finished our unit on atoms, states of matter, and heat this week! Our next unit will be on cells and the nervous system. This unit is a lot of fun as the students will learn more about their brain and how they learn. Next week, we will dive into a lot of weird words on the cell organelles!
Homework Due 2/11: No Homework
Math: Chapter 5 -Multiplying & Dividing Rational Numbers You may have seen that we have our new books! Hooray! The students exchanged their two books for just the one, so there should be no more wondering which book they will need when they come to class. We spent time with our division of integers this week and it would also be fitting for the class to work on their order of operations if they get a chance (this is to include exponents with and without a negative). Next week, we will convert between decimals, fractions, and percents as well as multiply rational numbers, using our methods taught at the beginning of the chapter.
Homework: No new work, please work on corrections/missing assignments
Social Studies: Students will be learning about The Industrial Revolution. We will finish up the unit by writing a little book on industrialism. Then we will move into the Revolution in Latin America. We will learn about Toussaint L’Overture and Haiti. We will also learn about the history of Mexico. |

English: 6th grade has completed their reading of The Iliad, and they will move on to The Odyssey next week. Today we celebrated Thalanos the Swift with an ELA-style version of the funeral games. The students had so much fun competing in these activities! Please ask your student what their favorite part was. Parents, please be on the lookout for information about the 6th grade Spring Auction Basket. This year’s theme is Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book.
Writing & Research: In Writing and Research this week, the middle school students began working on commonly confused words. They also spent some time learning about three parts of the brain that are responsible for most learning. This is in preparation for continuing their lesson on the growth mindset. Be sure to ask our students what the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and amygdala do. |
