We have reached the end of our poetry unit. The depth of analysis and love of poetry that your children have is absolutely inspiring! I have appreciated their willingness to take risks with their writing and share with their class. Students will take a quick quiz over the poetic devices they have learned throughout the unit. Then, it's on to my very favorite unit: Geology! Students will need to get "at home crafty" with this unit by showing one of the processes that shape the earth we will study. More info to come as we progress further into the unit.
Math:
Remember last week when I said to expect a math test at the beginning of next week? It's happening on Wednesday. Students should complete In Class Practice 12.6 over the weekend. Then, it's onto factors, multiples and conversions! We will also be taking our monthly fact assessments this week.
Grammar:
We have added Possessive Pronoun Adjectives to the mix and continue to work on mastering subject pronouns and review the realm of "You Understood".
Riggs:
I will be testing three word lists this week! These mult-syllabic words are taken from our readers, science, or history content. Students will be asked to write them with markings three times each, look them up in a dictionary with a partner to determine meaning, then use them in a sentence each day. The hope is that students gain exposure to academic vocabulary while generalizing the spelling rules they have spent a great deal of their lives learning.
Tuesday: sympathy, stern, enthusiasm
Wednesday: duty, vicious, luxurious
Thursday: bare, irritable, gleeful
Colorado History:
We will be looking at several European Explorers and their influence on the state of Colorado.
