Weekly Ag Update - May 4, 2026
Ag Weekly Reminders:
- Check out some of our finished piggy banks!
- Field Trip on Wednesday, May 13, 2026:
- 8:45a bus will leave, 1:30-2:00 pm arrival back at the school.
- Your student will need a sacked lunch that day.
- Resuable water bottle is preferred.
- Please make sure to cancel your order at school that day if your student normally orders pizza.
- Students should plan to wear their CattleGrounds sponsored t-shirts on the field trip.
- Students were reminded for the last two weeks and again today to check in with their teachers for the work they will be missing on that day. They need to complete and turn in PRIOR to going on the field trip. If it is not completed, they will stay back.
- Students in the music program will return in time to practice and perform in the program that afternoon. We will not have AG class that day as we will go watch the program.
- Elective packets have been sent out to 7th grade this week. 6th grade will receive packets after their return from Outdoor Education.
- Please note the changes to Ag for next year. There are TWO pathways.
- This change was made to accommodate students who have already taken agriculture and would like to advance their knowledge in the foundational concepts we have learned the last two years. The biggest change from this course offering compared to Introduction to Agriculture is students in the Introduction class will have more time spent on what is agriculture, how it connects to our life, commodities, etc. These lessons take roughly 6-8 weeks and with its removal, will allow returning students to study a different concept/idea during this timeframe while Introduction to Agriculture students will gain this insight.
- This framework allows us to more closely mimic pathways at the high school level and advance knowledge prior to high school ag or FFA involvement.
- Students who have taken agriculture education in 2024-2025 OR 2025-2026 should sign up for the Advanced Agriculture class. I have attached the blub on this elective offering below:
- Advanced Agriculture
** Students enrolled in this course should have previously taken a CCA Agricultural class between 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school year.
Agriculture is a hands-on, student interest led elective that meets twice a week. This course is for students with previous agricultural education experience wanting to advance and build upon concepts and topics previously taught. Examples include Advanced Animal Science (breeding technologies, genetics, livestock evaluation, nutrition, etc.) and Vet Science since Animal Science was introduced during the 2025-2026 academic year. Similar to Introduction to Agriculture, agricultural topics will be brought to the students, students can select their interest area, and explore these agricultural concepts through hands-on, problem-based learning in addition to the use of industry speakers, presentations, projects and creative avenues.
In the past topics such as What is FFA, Agricultural Career Exploration, Ag History, Woodworking, Ag Mechanics and vehicle safety, Soil and Plant Sciences have been offered in an advanced format. However, in the world of agriculture the options are endless! Students can anticipate 1-2 applicable field trips each semester correlating to studied topics in addition to projects and problem-based learning activities. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in various career development event (CDE) judging contests throughout the year to gain experience and scholarships for high school and college. We look forward to your student learning more about agriculture and driving their interests within the world of Ag!
