This week: |
We dove into Chapter 7 - Dividing Decimals on Thursday with the intention of completing this the week before Winter Break. I am confident we will be able to complete this chapter before break as long as students stay on task and apply what they already know.
We will continue to work in small groups with Mrs. Herman to work on volume. I would like to add a group with Mrs. Minne as well. In order for that to happen, students need to be able to focus during instructional time. Concepts worked on in small group will *NOT* be homework, unless students cannot stay on task. |
We are already nearly halfway through our Reformation Unit. This unit covers the reform of the Catholic Church and how the other branches of Christianity and Christian religions came to be. We will learn about Martin Luther, John Calvin, the Protestants and how they got their name. We have had some AMAZING conversations around this topic. You may see Classroom Discussion grades go into Infinite Campus along with (and at times in place of) formal activities.
Assessment will be Wednesday, February 17th and we will start the American Civil War unit right before break. It isn't ideal to start it before break, however, it is the longest unit we cover.
We will also continue reading Little Women as part of our Literature content. We are nearing the end of the book. We should wrap up the final chapters Friday and Tuesday. My plan is to go ahead with watching the movie in the afternoon Friday, February 13th.
We will start a new novel study after break. |
Students presented their projects on Tuesday and Wednesday. Overall, they did a great job! Grades will be going in this week.
We started the Investigating Matter science unit on Thursday. There are many fun experiments we can complete with this unit. It will take us to Winter Break. |
We will NOT have New Lists in the next few weeks before break. We will be using that time for our February Orthographic, as well as working on other Grammar and Language Arts skills.
New lists are current content based across subjects. Lists will only have 3 words. Students will be required to write each word with markings 4 times each, look up each word in the dictionary (writing down part of speech, page number and proper definition), and writing a sentence using each word correctly.
New lists will be posted to Parent Square. |
Students finalized their Westward Expansion Before the Civil War research essays on Friday. I look forward to reading them.
We will continue working on writing skills through various activities. |
