What's Happening This Week: |
We are rapidly approaching Thanksgiving break. Students are working diligently towards a movie afternoon on Friday, November 21st. *Please see the previous parent square post for more information.*
Students will continue to be required to take their classwork home (completed or not) for adult check. I have noticed much improvement after implementing this. Please look take the time to look over their work to help ensure they are not only doing their best work, but also completing the assignments entirely. Thank you for those who checked work with your student! The intention isn't to ensure they get perfect scores, but rather to ensure they are answering to the best of their abilities and answering questions completely. |

This week: |
We worked diligently on Chapter 4 Multi-Digit Multiplication packets last week. We will spend this week practicing this concept as well as reviewing previous concepts. There will also be some basic long division review as well. This will prep them for Multi-Digit Long Division when we come back from break as well as serve as a refresher for NWEA when we return. |
We wrapped up our Don Quixote CKLA unit Friday and started the Unit Assessment. We will wrap up the assessment on Tuesday and start our Renaissance unit as well. We will have to work hard to stay on track to finish the unit with assessment before Christmas break. This is a longer unit that can be tricky for students with a lot of difficult content.
I am requesting that parents help their student with their reading and reading comprehension. They are rushing trying to avoid homework and they aren't grasping content. It is imperative that they read the content multiple times prior to the unit assessment. |
Students who wish to make corrections to their Age of Exploration Unit assessment need to do so by Tuesdays. Students were instructed to put an X over their incorrect answer (NOT ERASE) and add the paragraph with the page number where they found their answer in order to receive partial credit back. When requested, students must be able to show me where in the paragraph they found the answer. Students only need to add paragraph numbers to the questions they are correcting.
We will continue the Early Russia unit this week. The hybrid teaching method will continue for this unit and Feudal Japan after Thanksgiving break. Students will work in small groups to read and discuss the chapter each day. Students will then work together to teach me about the chapter. We will discuss whole group before students take a 4-5 question multiple choice "exit ticket" each day.
There WILL be an open book multiple choice assessment on Thursday, November 20th, that will be required to be completed BEFORE eligible students can watch the movie.
Going forward, it will be imperative that students are taking their books, notes and any other materials home with them each day to study as the content we are working into (across all CKLA/History/Science areas can be difficult and tricky). |
Students will test Lists 29-32 this week. We will have new lists due to starting a new CKLA unit and words being related to the Renaissance.
New lists are current content based across subjects. Lists will only have 3 words. Students will be required to write each word with markings 4 times each, look up each word in the dictionary (writing down part of speech, page number and proper definition), and writing a sentence using each word correctly. Students struggled again this week with remembering what they are required to do. Please make sure your students remember what they need to do with Riggs assignments to get full credit.
New lists are posted to Parent Square. |
Writing seems to be the biggest academic struggle in this class. Proper sentence structure (capitalization and punctuation is a HUGE issue). Paragraph structure and what a paragraph looks and sounds like.
Students have been working hard on their Don Quixote Persuasive essays this week. This is a 4-5 paragraph essay written on whether they feel like Don Quixote's good intentions justify his actions. - Ask your student their opinion and help them start to think about how to argue their opinion. They will need to use 2-3 SPECIFIC examples from the book that demonstrate his actions vs his intention. Again, class time will be provided, however, if students feel they need additional time beyond that, they are welcome to work on them at home as well. These will be DUE ON FRIDAY!! |
