What's Happening This Week: |
I hope everyone had an amazing and restful Thanksgiving Break! The weather was beautiful to start and Ol' Man Winter is knocking now!
We are rapidly approaching Christmas Break! Can you believe there are only 3!! weeks left of the first semester?! It's going to be PACKED full of content and fun!
NWEA Mid-Year Testing Starts NEXT WEEK!
Students will continue to be required to take their classwork home (completed or not) for adult check. I have noticed much improvement after implementing this. Please look take the time to look over their work to help ensure they are not only doing their best work, but also completing the assignments entirely. Thank you for those who checked work with your student! The intention isn't to ensure they get perfect scores, but rather to ensure they are answering to the best of their abilities and answering questions completely. |

This week: |
We will wrap up Chapter 4 Multi-Digit Multiplication on Tuesday with a short Chapter Assessment on Tuesday before we jump into Long Division. We will also be working on reviewing Chapters 1-4 in preparation for NWEA Mid-Year assessments next week. |
We will continue to work on the Renaissance unit until Christmas Break. We will have to work hard to stay on track to finish the unit with assessment before Christmas break. This is a longer unit that can be tricky for students with a lot of difficult content.
I am requesting that parents help their student with their reading and reading comprehension. They are rushing trying to avoid homework and they aren't grasping content. It is imperative that they read the content multiple times prior to the unit assessment. |
We will start the Feudal Japan unit this week. The hybrid teaching method will continue for this unit. Students will work in small groups to read and discuss the chapter each day. Students will then work together to teach me about the chapter. We will discuss whole group before students take a 4-5 question multiple choice "exit ticket" each day. This is a short 5 chapter unit also.
There WILL be an open book multiple choice assessment on Wednesday, December 10th.
Going forward, it will be imperative that students are taking their books, notes and any other materials home with them each day to study as the content we are working into (across all CKLA/History/Science areas can be difficult and tricky). |
Students will test Lists 32-34 this week. We will have new lists due to starting a new CKLA unit and words being related to the Renaissance. With NWEA next week as well as Christmas Break coming, we won't have many new lists and instead will work on other Language Arts activities.
New lists are current content based across subjects. Lists will only have 3 words. Students will be required to write each word with markings 4 times each, look up each word in the dictionary (writing down part of speech, page number and proper definition), and writing a sentence using each word correctly. Students struggled again this week with remembering what they are required to do. Please make sure your students remember what they need to do with Riggs assignments to get full credit.
New lists are posted to Parent Square. |
Writing seems to be the biggest academic struggle in this class. Proper sentence structure (capitalization and punctuation is a HUGE issue). Paragraph structure and what a paragraph looks and sounds like.
Students will be working on a special project over the next three weeks. They will still get lots of practice with paragraph writing in our Renaissance unit. |
