7th Grade Math

Mrs. Powers, MS Math
Hello!  My name is Stacie Powers and I am the 7th Grade Math Teacher here at CCA.

While my background didn't begin in math, I have always loved numbers and solving problems.  I bring to the classroom a unique perspective on how math and numbers play into our daily lives.  My career began in the corporate business world, working with businesses to build their companies, launch new divisions and provide a full spectrum of marketing channels for their sales teams to venture into.  With each new adventure, that I helped drive, we always utilized math.  Yes, I am one person who can truly say that I have used my algebra, calculus and geometry classes beyond the classroom!

I am married to one amazing gentleman and we have three amazing children (yes, I might be a little biased).  As my time with my family brought me home from the corporate world - I began to spend time in my children's classrooms, which soon lead me to substitute teaching.  Spending time in the classroom has become my passion!  I love working along side the students and seeing them succeed!  I have a calling to work with each student, to understand what drives them, and to see how I can help them become more!

This year we will be focusing on some pretty challenging math tasks - but nothing our students cannot handle.  I believe in the Power of "Yet"...  we may not have it today, not yet, but we will keep trying and we will work to succeed!

Powers - On Point August 16, 2019

 7th Grade Math -
Wow!  What an amazing week we had!  We reviewed our integers and rational numbers, spoke about irrational numbers and we jumped into our first chapter on equations.  While exploring, we found that we do need more help with our integers - those pesky positive and negative signs were giving us some trouble.  On Friday we reviewed some simple steps and built some in classroom charts to help us remember.  Because of our need for additional review and practice - the students were sent home with a new practice for lesson A.1.

This Week:
Tuesday, we will continue solving equations, and move on to solving two-step equations.
Wednesday, we will finish our lesson on two-step equations.
Thursday, we have NWEA testing
Friday, we will finish up any unfinished work from the week and spend time practicing our integers (positive and negative equations).

Upcoming :
We will be moving into the first chapter in our book.  Chapter 1 continues our focus on equations.  We will spend the next 3 weeks mastering our skills!  We will also continue our practice of adding and subtracting integers, rational and irrational numbers.

If at anytime you have questions - please let me know.
Thanks!  Mrs. Powers

Math Intervention (Math Support)

What a fun group of students!  I have enjoyed our time together and look forward to helping support this group of students!  This week we took a boring test to see where the majority of the group needed the most practice.  We also created times tables, flash cards and practiced our multiplication tables.

This Week:
We will continue to practice our multiplication tables - and begin working on our long division skills.  While building our skills we will also discuss how we can use our opposite operations to check our work!

Upcoming:
We will begin to utilize our NWEA online access to help the students with individual needs; as well as, working together as group with our multiplication, division and estimating.
