Hello!  My name is Stacie Powers and I am the 7th Grade Math Teacher here at CCA.


While my background didn't begin in math, I have always loved numbers and solving problems.  I bring to the classroom a unique perspective on how math and numbers play into our daily lives.  My career began in the corporate business world, working with businesses to build their companies, launch new divisions and provide a full spectrum of marketing channels for their sales teams to venture into.  With each new adventure, that I helped drive, we always utilized math.  Yes, I am one person who can truly say that I have used my algebra, calculus and geometry classes beyond the classroom!

I am married to one amazing gentleman and we have three amazing children (yes, I might be a little biased).  As my time with my family brought me home from the corporate world - I began to spend time in my children's classrooms, which soon lead me to substitute teaching.  Spending time in the classroom has become my passion!  I love working along side the students and seeing them succeed!  I have a calling to work with each student, to understand what drives them, and to see how I can help them become more!

This year we will be focusing on some pretty challenging math tasks - but nothing our students cannot handle.  I believe in the Power of "Yet"...  we may not have it today, not yet, but we will keep trying and we will work to succeed!Math Teachers

Powers - On Point October 14, 2019



7th Grade Math -

Thank you to all the parents who came to conferences, I really enjoyed having time to chat with you!


Last week the 7th grade students ROCKED through our lessons and practice with exponents, and I couldn’t be more proud of their hard work.  Thank you for your continued support at home.


As we are in chapter 8 of our book, students are allowed to redo any incorrect problems from chapter 8 practices.  Redo’s need to be completed on a new sheet of paper and stapled to their original assignment. I am no longer accepting assignments from chapter A or chapter 1, unless you or your student has made previous arrangements with me.  All daily warm ups may be redone and turned in at any time - these are continual practice problems and I believe looking for our errors, correcting our mistakes and repetition make for stronger mathematicians!


Our Week Ahead:

We will continue having daily warm up papers, practicing and sharpening our math skills.

We will also continue through chapter 8, Exponents and Scientific Notation

Tuesday - We will finish Lesson 8.4 (Zero and Negative Exponents) and have

Small Group work for Practice 8.4

** Assignments from class will be due on Thursday Morning (7:30 a.m.)


Wednesday - Whole Class Lesson 8.5 (Estimating Quantities)

**Assignment will be the Lesson Self Assessment, if not completed in class. The Self Assessment is due Thursday morning (7:30 a.m.)

Thursday - Small Group work for Practice 8.5

** Assignments from class will be due on Friday Morning (7:30 a.m.)


Friday- Whole Class Lesson 8.6 (Scientific Notation)

**Practice 8.6 - Students will have completed the self assessment in class and will know which color set they should work from** They should complete part 1 and part 2 on separate sheets for paper to turn in Tuesday morning (7:30 a.m.)  Please have them check google classroom for their assignment.

Upcoming :

We will complete chapter 8 with lesson 8.7 and review for the Learning Target Assessment. The Chapter 8 Learning Target Assessment will be on Tuesday October 29, 2019.

Math Intervention (Math Support)


Did you hear?  Our Math Support Group (Okay, it was just me) challenged Mrs. Lockett to a showdown!  This showdown will be who can answer multiplication facts with the quickest draw. Please encourage your student to be practicing with their flashcards at home - they made them at school and should be carrying them back and forth each day!


The students are doing really well with their individual work on MapSkills, I am seeing lots of improvement and mastery when they take small quizzes.  I know that they do not always LOVE them - but they do well, and with each mastery I can see their confidence levels SOAR!


Students also have the opportunity to ask for help with their daily math assignments, please encourage them to use this time in our classroom to do so.  The students who are asking questions are also seeing a large improvement in their class work! Confidence is the first step in overcoming our math fears!  This week we will be implementing a success tracker - please review this with them next weekend and send it back signed by you and them. I will be adding the trackers to their class grade.
